Overdrive control challenge

This is making my brain hurt now but I'm sure I can do what I want without any additional circuitry.

I want a toggle switch on the dash to switch on the overdrive circuit. Which is fine, just a simple latched input will do that. However I want to cancel it when I change gear. Each of the gear positions has a switch so I know when it is in gear and this could also be wired to an input. What I can't work out in my head is the logic to cancel the toggled state of the overdrive input every time a gear is changed. ie say car is in 3rd, toggle switch puts overdrive in. Then change to 4th, I want the overdrive to be canceled so it goes to 4th with no overdrive.

Any ideas ? I almost need some logic that reliably changes the state of a latched input to low when a signal is received from the gearbox switch.

Brilliant Idea, I wasn't aware of the counters so I'll take a look.

Cheers 😀
